CLEANING SHAVING BRUSH

CLEANING SHAVING BRUSH

Cleaning shaving brush is necessary to ensure that it performs well and to maximize its lifetime. A shaving brush is probably the most costly equipment in your traditional wet shaving kit, so you want to take care for it properly.
In this post I would like to share with you some tips on cleaning your shaving brush to maximize its performance and keep it in good shape as long as possible.

RINSE WELL

After each use, wash the brush thoroughly to remove shaving cream residues. Sometimes the lather gets deep in the shaving brush and to wash it out you have to wash it for a minute or so. Hold the brush straight up and let the water flow deep in between the bristles. Squeeze a few times to remove the water and with it the lather. When there are no shaving cream residues, give the brush a last squeeze and a few gentle shakes. Finish drying the brush by tapping it gently on a dry towel.

LEAVE TO DRY IN THE OPEN AIR

After washing thoroughly, leave the shaving brush to dry. To help the brush drying quicker, leave it in an open place to dry in the open air. The air should be able to circulate through the bristles so fluffing the hairs with your hand will help the air circulation.

USE VINEGAR!

Once a year it is good to clean your brush well using a vinegar solution. This will dissolve any lather residues and keep the brush in good condition. Use a vinegar solution of 1 part white vinegar to 9 parts warm water. Soak the brush in for two minutes and wash well with warm water. Keep the brush in the open air to dry.

Cleaning shaving brush is simple. It is a matter of being consistent and do it well after each shave. Occasionally give it a thorough cleaning with a vinegar solution. This should keep your shaving brush performing well for a longer period.
